Cylon Controlling Today - Conserving Your Tomorrow
Stepping stones to a better future
With the depletion of the earth's energy resources, increases in pollution and the abuse of non energy resources all organisations have a moral obligation to become more socially responsible. Already we are seeing the effects of emissions and extensive energy use on our environment. We all have to play our part to ensure a better tomorrow for next generations - be this in the way we preserve the environment or the way we do business. Cylon Controls have continuously helped others to monitor and reduce energy usage through our innovative building energy management system and take positive steps to ensure we conduct business responsibly. At Cylon Controls we are continuously looking at ways in which we can play our part in maintaining the environment. Here at Cylon we have put together an extensive programme of stepping stones which we can use to move into a brighter future.
Stepping Stone for Climate Change
Cylon Controls are aware of the effect that the depletion of energy resources
is having on our climate. We provide products to our customers that allow
them to monitor
energy use even on a daily basis. Cylon's BEMS can help save between
5% and 25% on annual utility bills. Our purpose built headquarters in Dublin
is a perfect showcase for the way in which a BEMS can help save energy.
The Cylon BEMS regulates the heating and cooling of the building and all
lighting is controlled by the BEMS. Cylon's electricity comes from Airtricity
(which generates electricity from wind power). Electricity generated from
fossil fuels (such as coal, oil and gas) produces 36% of all CO2 emissions.
By switching to Airtricity a green sustainable form of energy Cylon Controls
help ensure our planet is safe and clean for future generations.
Stepping Stone to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Cylon Controls provide products to our customers that enable them to monitor
their carbon emissions. Cylon Controls headquarters are totally controlled
using the Cylon building energy management system so that carbon emissions
in the workplace can be controlled. Cylon employees are aware of the carbon
emissions from cars so many people travel to work by car pooling, bike or
public transport.
Stepping Stone for Waste Management
Cylon Controls are in compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Directive
(WEEE) since it became law in Ireland on August 3rd, 2005. The WEEE directive
applies to all companies that manufacture, sell, distribute, recycle, or treat
electrical or electronic equipment. WEEE aims to reduce the waste arising from
electrical and electronic equipment and to improve the environmental performance
of all those involved in the life cycle of these products. Cylon accept returns
of Cylon products labelled with the recycle bin through our normal product return
process. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer but it is a small
price to pay for a cleaner environment.
Stepping Stone for Raw Materials
Cylons
building energy management system is ROHS compliant. The initial ROHS compliance
deadline from the EU for the removal of lead and other hazardous substances
was 1st July 2006. Many vendors have taken advantage of derogations to postpone
implementation, Cylon delivered on this initiative in June 2006 ensuring customers
now benefit from lead-free products. Cylon's leadership in product design and
operations has shown the industry that it is possible to deliver the highest
quality product that is also environmentally friendly.
Stepping Stone for Fair Trading
All organisations and individuals that Cylon come in contact with are treated
with respect and courtesy. Cylon Controls ensure that all agreements are met
and aim to improve the lives of hundreds of people in our supply chain through
mutually advantageous agreements.
Stepping Stone for Recycling
Here at our purpose built headquarters in Dublin Cylon encourage recycling and
have centralised recycling locations throughout the building. Employees learn
through Cylon the importance of recycling and bring these lessons home. Cylon
staff work together to recycle as much waste as possible.
