Energy efficiency and carbon management have become an integral part
of the corporate social responsibility in Retail. Cylon Controls offers
innovation on Energy Management in Retail by fulfilling the role of
Virtual Building Manager. The Cylon Building Energy Management System
fully controls 60 Boots stores in the United Kingdom. Lighting, heating,
cooling and the air handling units are centrally managed and monitored
by the supervisory bureau within Severn Controls and a remote dial alarm
facility connected to the bureau has been installed in each store. The
centrally managed Cylon BEMS allows Boots to reduce their maintenance
and energy costs.
Cylon
Controls would like to announce new appointments to the sales and management
team. Richard Gladney joins Cylon Controls as Ireland and UK Sales Manager
and will supervise both markets with a network of over 70 Cylon Approved
System Integrators. Richard brings 7 years experience in the HVAC industry
having worked most recently as Sales Director for Control Aer. Our second
appointment is for the Australasia market. Ross Wilson, who is based
in Australia, takes up the role of Regional Sales Manager and is responsible
for the Australian, New Zealand and Chinese markets.

Building
Schools for the Future is a school rebuilding programme in England which
began in 2005. Its aim is to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school
and half the primary schools. As part of this programme, the Cylon BEMS
was installed in 6 Schools at Gateshead, by Astral Control Services.
The Cylon system controls and monitors the ventilation, air conditioning,
heating, photovoltaic electricity meters, solar water heater systems
and wind turbines. The information on building energy management in
the 6 schools is made available from any networked PC to the Facilities
Manager and Local Authority using Cylon Embedded Weblink.
Cylon Controls delivers innovative BMS through an elite worldwide network
of over 111 Cylon Approved System Integrators. Our partners complete
ongoing training and accreditation to maintain their Cylon Approved
System Integrator status. Cylon Controls held a 2-day new product training
course in our headquarters in Dublin on 9th and 10th April 2008. This
advanced training was attended by over 22 Cylon partners from United
Kingdom. It introduced our partners to the new Cylon products and software
updates to be released this year. Our Dublin headquarters offers great
facilities for training and is used as a live showcase environment for
new products.
The
Irish government looks to new initiatives to reduce Ireland's energy
usage and carbon emissions in order to bring the country in line with
the EU standards. Therefore, the government announced in the Green Finance
Bill their plan to offer tax incentives to encourage businesses to purchase
energy saving equipments including Building Energy Management Systems.
Businesses will benefit from taxable profits in the year of purchase.
Low cost BEMS are often installed in buildings but this new incentive
will encourage businesses to choose high quality BEMS allowing them
to make long-term energy savings, reducing their annual running costs
and energy bills. The Finance Bill specifies that Sustainable Energy
Ireland (SEI) will hold the list of qualifying BEMS equipment. We are
looking forward to the publishing of the final list later in the summer.
